Lords of Arcana

It looks like Square Enix is jumping on the Monster Hunter bandwagon with their recently announced Sony PSP title, Lord of Arcana. In action multiplayer game Lord of Arcana, players create customizable warriors that slay large beasts for loot items and other ingame goodies. Hmm sounds familiar…

There are quests, various in-game items and endless comparisons to Monster Hunter. Here’s my opinion: I don’t really have a problem if it is a Monster Hunter clone but sure do hope it is a QUALITY (or dare i say even better ) version than Capcom’s monster hunting game series.

Add this to Namco’s God Eater and we have 2 big name companies trying to steal Capcom’s dominance in this genre.

Azmandez – Iran’s First MMO

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 07:21 PM PDT

With help from a national foundation for games development, Iran has published the country’s first online game, an MMO called Asmandez. WOW. Not so much because Iran was able to make an MMO but they actually have a national foundation FOR GAMES. How cool is that?

Asmandez, English title is Sky Fortress, supports 5,000 users at the same time. The head of Iran’s National Foundation for Computer Games said it was developed in hopes of inspiring other Iranians to enter the games development field.

Cool!

Leave the stereotypes about Iranian theocracy, Sky Fortress sounds decidedly secular in nature. It’s a science-fiction game set in the future, pitting humans against robots. Humans have been forced to flee to another solar system, named Limbas, to begin a new life there.

An English-localized version was also developed. The game also is designed to allow access to the visually impaired, through the use of audio cues.

“Some 10 million people use computer games in Iran, only 100 of which can design and develop video games,” said Behrouz Minai, the head of Iran’s National Foundation for Computer Games. “Sky Fortress is our first step towards encouraging young Iranians to become game developers rather than being mere players.”
